Postavka, u isto vreme, predstavlja i umetničko do kumentarni omaž svim žrtvama stradanja i utamničenja.

The restoration of the Kula Nebojša and its inclusion in the cultural life of Belgrade is the largest project which has been done not only in our country but in the whole region. The project started in 2007. by signing the Agreement of the Greek – Serbian cooperation. The European Centre of Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments, in cooperation with the City of Belgrade, has prepared a plan for turning this monument into a museum and cultural center dedicated to Rigas Feraios, the history of the tower and the liberation wars of the Serbs and Balkan peoples in general. By this project, Belgrade was promoted in cultural, environmental and tourism terms, and the Kula Nebojša gained importance as a place of remembrance and a symbol of friendship and cooperation among the peoples of the Balkans. A team of experts from the Republic Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments and the Faculty of Architecture, with consulting services of the Archaeological Institute, was working on the reconstruction of the Tower. Thanks to an exceptional project of the team of authors J. Mitrović, D. Miljko- vić and B. Pavić, the object is not only restored and protected from flooding and coastal groundwater by building walls, but its space was updated and turned into a unique museum that Belgrade can certainly be proud of. In the medieval fortress, with the most modern projectors, digital photo frames, superior audio system and 3D settings, visitors will enjoy a true virtual journey through our history. Respecting cultural and historical heritage, the designers have actually reaffirmed the value of this cultural monument. It was adapted to a museum and cultural center, so that the architecture and theme settings in the exhibition space are reference benchmarks for themse- lves, and can be an example of how such an intervention should be carried out. The exhibition on the ground floor is dedicated to the history of the Kula. Nebojša as a prison, a place of torture and captivity. The electronic form shows how during the late 18th and early 19th century it became a symbol of the repression of the Ottoman soldiers over Christian peoples of the Balkans against several centuries long Ottoman rule. The exhibition at the same time presents a documentary and artistic homage to all the victims of suffering and imprisonment. On the first floor, using multimedia applicati- ons, are presented the person, ideas and work of Rigas Feraios, the great Greek poet and revolutionary who was a key figure of the Greek people and other Balkan nations on their way to freedom. By order of the High Porta, Rigas Velestinlis was imprisoned in Kula Nebojša, together with seven like-minded people, where he died on June the 13. 1798. The exhibition on the second level of Kula Nebojša is dedicated to the First Serbian Uprising and the foundation of the modern Serbian state in the early 19th century. Here are presented the main causes that led to the Uprising in the Pashadom of Belgrade, as well as the rebel army military operations, Karađorđe and leading figures of the First Serbian Uprising, along with the processes of building a modern Serbian state and first institutions of the army, government and education. The last level of Kula Nebojša presents the history of Belgrade, which was the border fortress of the Ottoman Empire during the first decades of the 19th century and which later became the capital of the vassal Principality of Serbia. The exhibition, in electronic form, shows the beginning of the Second Serbian Uprising in 1815, the role and influence of Duke Miloš Obrenović on acquiring an autonomous internal governance and the creation of the Principality of Serbia, the development of Serbian town of Belgrade, Ottoman Belgrade and the life of its people of different religions and nationalities as well as the process of converting the town from an Oriental one into a Central European one. The special value of the project is the relationship between the old and the new in architecture, the reconciliation of the relationship between the importance of the building as a cultural heritage and the needs imposed by modern life.
